She Sleeps

She's calm,
She's in peace,
To escape reality,
She sleeps . . . .

 

Similar to her Landscape of Story series, She Sleeps is a way for Valerie to escape from reality. She was always intrigued by a sleeping individual and wondered what was the world that person is dreaming about. Their peaceful position and calm emotion often were a symbol to escape from the stressful reality, setting them free to imagine the possibilities in the dream world, appearing almost surreal.

Figures in the paintings or Drawings were often very feminine, using curved lines and soft textures to set a dreamy mood. Birds were always a symbol of peace and freedom in her works.
